Our ne’er do well Republican Presidential nominee today spoke at the National NRA Convention in St. Louis, MO. One would think that at an NRA convention, said Presidential nominee would be speaking about how our President has gone and taken away all of our guns and repealed the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. Well, since he could not do that, he spoke about something near and dear to his heart, contraception. More specifically, how he plans to overturn Roe v. Wade and ensure that employers do not have to provide insurance which would cover contraception. Now, before we get our panties all tied up over this, let’s examine what former-Governor Romney did in Massachusetts while he served his ONE term as governor…
he enforced a very nearly identical mandate at the state level enacted by his predecessor; and advanced a separate one requiring religiously affiliated hospitals to provide emergency contraception to rape victims.
Apparently, our hapless candidate seems to forget about Romney-Care. What someone should be looking for in a candidate is, not necessarily their viewpoints, but whether a candidate is truthful or not. Given that Romney has gone back on many of the issues he used to support, one should only wonder what he will go back on if he is elected President of the United States. Romney, may have been successful as a venture capitalist, but I fear his dalliance in politics will not be as successful.
It is quite discouraging to see someone, especially a candidate for the highest office in the land, not stand-up for his beliefs. I hate saying this, but at least Rick Santorum stood by his beliefs. Even Newt Gingrich, the mother of all hypocrites stands by his beliefs and does not back down. In that respect, I have to give those two credit. But, Romney does not seem to have met a belief he cannot change, depending on his latest poll numbers.
This will surely be an interesting campaign season, to say the least. Hey, but here is the fun part, we still have seven months of it. What I am looking forward to the most are the debates between Obama and Romney. I wonder how those will play out. We will have to wait and see.
